Leadership Training

Organizational Development Institute

Organizational Development Institutes (or ODIs) are AJLI leadership development meetings that provide Junior League members with mission-based training in key areas critical to the healthy functioning of a League. At ODIs, delegates build organizational capacity by learning about:

  • innovative approaches to developing Junior League members as effective volunteer leaders in their communities
  • powerful ways to design community programs and partnerships that have significant impact
  • strategies for sustainable and diversified fund development
  • keys to building strong internal operational controls
  • new approaches that enable the League to be governed strategically and effectively
  • ways to build relationships, engagement and understanding through marketing and communications
  • leading The Junior League to be more diverse and inclusive

Northwest Exchange

Northwest Exchange features League-led training meetings in which members from the Pacific Northwest come together for training, networking and information sharing. This “mini ODI” is a unique opportunity to learn alongside women who live nearby in a smaller, more intimate setting.

Local Training Opportunities

In addition to sending members to conferences, Junior League of Yakima is committed to providing local training opportunities to our membership. Advocacy training, book clubs, committee involvement and nonprofit presentations are a just a few examples of how we provide a meaningful, well-rounded and educational experience for our members.

Community Connection

The Junior League of Yakima strives to impact the community by designing programs with a teen focus, Empowering Girls—Inspiring Leaders.  Junior League of Yakima hosts an annual leadership summit in the spring for middle school girls and offers an after-school book club in partnership with On the Corner and Washington Middle School. Both programs are designed to promote positive self-image and create new opportunities for girls in Yakima.

In addition to our Girls Initiative, we support local nonprofit organizations through donation drives, volunteer activities, grant funding and other collaborative ventures.

“Joining the Junior League of Yakima gave me some of my best friends to this day! It also taught me how to become a community leader and engaged Board member, and it freed me to discover that I actually have a ‘voice’ and need to use it!” -Reesha Cosby, joined in 2007

“The women of JLY I’ve made relationships with inspire me to be my best self. They are constantly teaching me how to lead with grace.” -Kristen Charlet, joined in 2012

“The personal and professional contacts I have made through League have brought so much joy to my life! I can’t imagine what the last 7 years would have looked like and honestly I would have probably left Yakima by now.” -Amy Thiessen Maib, joined in 2013
